As a member of the American Camp Association, I was asked to join and support the No Child Left Inside Coalition, a national coalition of over 1600 business, health, youth, faith, recreational, environmental, and educational groups representing over 50 million Americans formed in 2007 to alert Congress and the public to the need for our schools to devote more resources and attention to environmental education. The goal is to ensure that every student achieves basic environmental literacy. [Source: cbf.org] Joining this cause was a no-brainer for me. As a camp leader, I am crystal clear on the value of environmental literacy and outdoor education. I'm all in.
The video above is a public service announcement from the No Child Left Inside Coalition. Although some of the statistics are dated (i.e., youth ages 8-18 now spend over 52 hours a week using multimedia and not 30 hours a week as the PSA indicates), the message is clear: Get 'em outside! So what are you waiting for? Let's go!
